What you can expect from our Live-In Care
Our Live-In Care is a cost-effective plan that provides constant home care for loved ones. Live-in caregivers reside with the client to service all the clients’ home care needs on a daily basis. Our caregivers adjust to the client’s schedule and provide all non-medical home care needs in order to provide the highest level of satisfaction to the client as well as peace of mind for the family.
What is live-in care?
Live-in care is when a paid caregiver lives in the same home as your loved one to provide help with activities of daily living, or ADLs. Continuous home care service prevents gaps in coverage for clients who cannot remain unattended. Ideally, we at Safe at Home Healthcare like to arrange a primary and secondary caregiver that work as a team in the plan of care for your loved one.
We also recommend that another caregiver of ours be assigned when a primary or secondary caregiver needs to take time off, such as for being ill. This backup caregiver must also be familiar with the plan of care. Thus, the client is always served by a caregiver who is familiar with the person’s needs and is ready to step in when needed.

What’s the difference between live-in caregiving and 24-hour caregiving?
Hourly caregiving involves two or three caregivers who work 6-12 hour shifts in the care recipient’s home, which can be provided with (2) 12-hour shifts. Hourly caregiving is more appropriate for individuals who have higher care needs such as hospice where it’s important for your loved one to be monitored throughout the night and have a positioning schedule to prevent bed sores.
Standard live-in care, on the other hand, involves a night’s sleep for the caregiver (13 Hour Rule), while allowing some leeway for the need for an occasional event to attend to the client’s needs during the night.
Safe at Home provides for both hourly care (6 hours up to 24 hours) and Live-In Care.
How does live-in care compare with assisted living?
Live-in care offers certain advantages over assisted living. These are:
-
One-to-one care
-
Maintain familiar living environment
-
Can keep pets
-
Greater protection from air-borne viruses
-
Flexible types of meals and meal times
How much does live-in care cost?
If you’re wondering, “how much does live-in care for the elderly cost?” you’ll be pleased to find that live-in care is only a fraction of assisted living or residential care. Check out our data on the nationwide cost of care for the elderly.
Will social services pay for live-in care?
Generally speaking, no. Medicare and Medicaid cover only skilled home care such as Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, and Speech Therapy. Safe at Home Healthcare accepts private funds as well long-term care insurance. Read more about our payment expectations.
There are exceptions to this and some of this depends on state laws. You might also want to read on another website about programs that pay children to care for their aging parents.
What about live-in care for dementia patients?
A person with dementia has special needs and often requires 24-hour home care due to being up in the night, not allowing a caregiver to get at least 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep. We at Safe at Home Healthcare will work with your family to develop an individualized plan of care for your loved one. If your mom or dad or relative has dementia, caring for them full time is often stressful and sometimes not possible. If you sense that this is a growing problem, contact us to talk about your options.
How qualified are your caregivers for live-in care?
Safe at Home Healthcare screens and selects all caregivers for clients to ensure proper verification, certification, training, references and background checks. These are all checked before implementation of care.
Once your caregiver is chosen, trained and placed in your home, Safe at Home Healthcare continues to monitor the caregiver and the quality of in-home care to ensure a successful transition. Telephone calls, check-ins, and home visits are a part of the ongoing quality control at Safe at Home Healthcare.
