“Nursing home residents who continuously wore a lavender-scented aromatherapy patch were less likely to fall in a recent study from Japan. The aroma was so faint that only the person wearing the patch could sense it. A fresh patch was affixed to the person’s clothing near the neck every day for a year.
Lavender essential oil is used in aromatherapy to ease anxiety and nervousness, and it has been shown to improve balance in older adults. Participants in this study had a significant decrease in agitation during the course of the trial, which may have contributed to the reduced rate of falls”
